there’s no doubt that a peacoat is a classic staple that stands the test of time. its origins have conflicting reports but most agree this double-breasted wool beauty was first worn by european and american sailors in the early 1700’s. it was originally designed to keep away the biting chill of the open sea, but it’s sleek appearance soon caught on with the mainstream public, and it more or less has retained its original shape to this day. i love peacoats for its sleek, simple lines, and i’ve always had one or two hanging in my closet. navy or black are the traditional colors, but nowadays you can find peacoats in an array of differing colors. a peacoat is the perfect outerwear choice for this time of year. i love it layered over a chunky knit turtleneck and red flannel plaid shirt.
