when it’s time to get my boho chic game on, i look to the master. ralph lauren has this look down pat with a little southwestern thrown in for good measure. one reason i’ve favored ralph lauren through the years are the beautiful fabric patterns presented season after season. from florals to paisley, haberdashery to animal prints, there’s always a variety to choose from the muted print on this skirt is a prime example of a timeless pattern and perfectly transitions into fall. tiered ruffles exude femininity, so i brought in a decidedly masculine chambray shirt to balance the ootd. although this outfit would have no problem whatsoever with being feminine through-and-through. think silk blouse, high heels, and a hobo handbag. but since i’m in a decidedly casual state-of-mind today i opted for button-down, ballet flats, and a structured handbag. plus, i cinched a braided belt around the waistband to reinforce the color scheme. and while mr. style’s not completely onboard with my striped tee peeking out from beneath my shirt; i couldn’t resist a little pattern play. plus, i was reminded of a time in the early nineties when this look was on major repeat. my kiddos ranged from ages one through eight and my uniform consisted of a pair of blue jeans paired with a tee, denim shirt and two-toned driving moc’s – all from ralph lauren. those were busy years when even a short car ride with three young boys and their respective gear was executed with military precision. and, for some unknown reason, arguing would commence the second the mini-van shifted into gear. it was like clockwork. even now, my children age twenty-five through thirty-two still squabble every time the car seatbelt clicks. some things never really change.
